WPC decking (wood plastic composite decking) is made from a mixture of wood fiber and high density PE. This is a popular and new material in recent years.
In My own understanding, considering the production process, WPC decking is normally divided into two generations. The first generation is extrusion decking. And the second generation is co-extrusion decking. Before talking about the advantages of them, let’s first take a look at the production process of WPC decking so that we can better know its features.
There are 5 steps to produce the decking and strict inspection process before and after producing. After the test of raw materials, we start the first step-mixing the materials in a proper proportion. Then, the second step-granulation finishes by high temperature and high pressure equipment. Next is the third step-extrusion, the granulate is extruded to be WPC profiles on high pressure and at that time, decking will be roughly cut into sections. Then, the forth step is polish the boards and cut them according to request precisely and clean them. Last step is packing the decking with PE film and pallet. By the way, our products are 100% quality inspected after producing and finishing. What differs co-extrusion decking from first generation decking is co-extrusion decking is co-extruded with a protection layer, made by new material-plastic.
Next, let’s talk about the various surface treatment of decking. For the first generation decking, there are 3D online embossing and normal embossing. What should be noted is that 3D online embossing surface is made just during the step of extrusion. There is a embossing machine to press board deep and natural wood grain at the end of extrusion machine when the board is still hot because it is easy to press the wood grain deeply and the texture is more vivid. And this surface treatment is only applicable to the model of online embossing products. Normal embossing decking is embossed using an embossing machine after the floor has cooled, resulting in a slightly shallower pattern than 3D embossed decking.
And for co-extrusion decking, the wood grain texture, including KELAI Has saw mark, matte texture, wood vein and flat. The textures looks similar as 3D online embossing, board is embossed natural wood grain just during the co-extrusion process.
Also notice that for the strip and flat of decking, they are unchangeable because they are made by their mold which is unique designed. Therefore, we cannot change the strip or flat surface of the decking. And after the decking boards cooling down, the flat surface will be polished or brushed.

And it need low maintenance with resistance of stain and fading.
